WOOF: Huskies land second commitment for 2024 in 3-star Jaxson Jones

It didn’t take long for the victory over #11 Michigan State to pay off for the Huskies, as Kalen DeBoer’s staff landed their second recruit in the 24 hours following the game in three-star edge rusher Jaxson Jones. A product of Yuma (Ariz.), Jones is an exciting player to watch and one look at his film makes it easy to see why the Washington staff wanted to get him in the boat as soon as possible.

Jones has the potential to be a major riser similar to how 2023 Husky commit, defensive back Leroy Bryant has shot up the rankings. The 6’3, 215-pound edge rusher has a frame that can carry a lot more weight, and has elite burst off the ball. He also might remind fans of another long edge-rusher oozing with potential out of high school from Arizona, current starting edge Bralen Trice, who was 6-3, 225 with a similar frame when he came to Washington out of Sandra Day O’Connor High School.

“What stood out the most to me was just how loud it actually was in the stadium,” Jones said in an interview with 247 Sports’ Blair Angulo. “Coming from a small school in Arizona that’s something I’m not used to but I loved it. I love the whole coaching staff. They were all so welcoming and I’ve already spoken with most of them before, but they just make me feel like I belong there. The highlight of my trip was definitely me committing verbally. Washington from the beginning has always been welcoming and just not shy when it came to talking to me. They got on me early and I felt like the time was right.”

Football runs in Jones’ blood too, as his father Daniel played wide receiver at the University of Utah in 1997 and 1998, and over those two seasons, he totaled 98 catches for 1435 yards and nine touchdowns. Jaxson currently holds seven offers, and while none of them are from Power 5 schools, he’s a name that fans should definitely keep an eye on as he continues to get national exposure
