How Much Did Big Win Move the Needle with Washington Football Recruiting Targets?

On their trips back to their respective states, many of the recruiting visitors have offered their impressions of their trips to Washington and the Huskies’ 39-28 victory over Michigan State.  The response was overwhelmingly positive, moving the needle further into the Husky’s favor.

Before the game the prospects talked about being excited to see how the players respond to the new coaching staff and how the players interact.  We’re working on stories with several Washington targets, but these are some of the top responses about the atmosphere inside Husky Stadium.

On Husky Stadium’s atmosphere:

“I was like, ‘wow this place loves their team’,” said one player.

“I have been in other stadiums but the fans behind me didn’t sit down once,” one prospect said. “It has to be tough to play for other teams.”

“As a defender it would be a tough place to play.  I had to yell at my guy next to me to talk,” said a defensive target.  “It was louder than I thought a place could get.”

“It was eye opening,” said one offensive prospect.  “I heard the students weren’t even in school and the student section was lit the entire game.”

“It was a lot of great energy with the fans and coaches,” said one defensive player.

One player described the whole game as “no chill.  no chill from the fans no chill from the team.  They were on a mission.”

“It’s a defensive lineman’s dream to play in an atmosphere like that,” said Washington defensive lineman commit Anthony James.

On Washington’s offense:

“You could tell that part of Michigan (State’s) problem was that they couldn’t communicate but Washington did what they wanted,” said an offensive prospect.

“Early in I wanted to go to the bathroom for a while, but I didn’t want to miss the U-dub offense scoring again,” one player said.  “It would be an exciting offense to play in because they score a lot.”

On the Washington Culture:

“You can tell that the coaches care about their players and the players enjoy each other,” a local recruit said.

“I noticed that each coach understood their players,” said an out of state player.

Overall, several of the prospects used “eye-opening” to describe the overall experience.  However, the Huskies have received the commitment from receiver Landon Bell out of Liberty High School in Henderson, Nevada.

Bell said before his visit to Washington he was 60% sure that he wanted to be a Husky. The game, the atmosphere, the players and the coaches left no doubt that he wanted to be wear the purple and gold.
