Cali Safety Breaks Down Interest in Washington

Laguna Hills, CA. safety, Mitch Leigbor was offered by Washington over the weekend, and he spoke with Realdawg.com this week about what that offer means to him, and if the Huskies have a solid shot now.

“I have 19 total offers”, the 6-1, 205 lb. defensive back reported, “I was really excited (about the offer). Washington has a great football program and is a great school. I know Washington doesn’t offer a lot of recruits so it was big for me.”

Obviously, Will Harris and Terrence Brown have been the main recruiters for Leigbor, and have already made a solid impression on him, “I’ve been communicating with Coach Harris and Coach Brown almost daily for the past few weeks”, he explained, “I have a great relationship with both of them.”

Could he see himself playing for these coaches?

“Yes I can see myself playing for them”, Leigbor said, “They are experienced coaches who have a history of developing great defensive backs.”

Leigbor has played both offense and defense for Laguna Hills, but he’s definitely being targeted as a safety for the Huskies; he’s long and rangy but has terrific instincts in the secondary and is a thumper. Last season he recorded over 100 tackles on defense, as well as four picks, with two going all the way to the house.

“I can play close to the ball and make plays against the run”, he said of his game.

He also has that speed needed to make plays in the secondary.

Today he’s having the virtual tour with the coaches, “That includes a campus tour, academic presentation, and facilities tour”, Leigbor said.

As for his timeline, Leigbor is hoping to have to have this wrapped up sooner than later, “I hope to make my decision soon, and definitely before my senior season”, he said.

But with the inability to get out and take any summer trips, Leigbor said he’s thought about the idea that he might have to make a decision without a visit, “I wish I could have made some additional visits but I may have to make a decision without visiting campus. I am getting a lot out of the virtual tours”

At the end of the day, Leigbor said “I am looking for a good academic school and a school with a great football program where I can make an early impact on the team.”

He’s undecided on a major at this point.
