WOOF: Huskies add Local DL, Siaosi Finau to 2021 Class

As I’ve said before, if there’s a serious sleeper out there, the UW coaches will find him. And they found just that in Renton, WA. DL, Siaosi Finau.

The Huskies offered today and moments later Finau committed.

He took a virtual tour before being offered by Jimmy Lake and Ikaika Malloe today.

“The virtual tour was great I got to see the best of UW and just (the) tour made me feel a part of the school. I’m super excited”, Finau, who’s a 6-4, 270 DE told Realdawg.com, “It’s a blessing…UW has been my dream school. When my family came over from Maui it was because the economy wasn’t good there and when we came here there were so many blessings, my parents both got jobs.”

The ultimate finish though to this season of blessing for the Finau family is that their son will attend the University of Washington.

They’ve now been on the mainland for 10 years, and he’s been making a huge impact on the field at Renton High School. Finau is a hard-worker, and according to his high school coach, he leads practice, is a team captain, and yet he’s also an extremely positive influence to his teammates.

“I think my biggest strength is keeping positive”, he said, “I have a positive mindset and I’m always pushing my team to be better.”

Finau has flown way below the radar and isn’t even listed in most recruiting databases, but Ikaika Malloe has an eye for talent and when Finau sent the Husky head coach some film, along with facetime chats, and a chance to get to know each other, the decision was made to offer this local sleeper.

He’s big, his upside is enormous, and he’s just a hell of an athlete.

Finau has an athletic body; he played tight end and is physical enough to be a two-way player.. He’s only played two years and yet his work ethic is off the charts. He’s a little reminiscent of Leki Fotu who played for Utah and was a 2019 All-American before going into the NFL. Fotu had only played two years too before going into college.

“Coach Malloe began messaging me and we began to have a strong relationship”, Finau said, “He kept checking up on me and became more than just a coach, but also a friend.”

The coaches originally eyeballed Finau when they held the Washington Blitz; and Jimmy Lake and his staff flip over every rock in their backyard.

Malloe, Scott Huff, and Pete Kwiatkowski did all their homework on Finau and it led up to this special day for this young man and his family.
