Three-star Washington Husky defensive line target Deijon Laffitte from Ontario, California has been offered by the Washington coaches before.
“I am in most contact with Coach Inge and Coach Schmidt,” he said. “I’ve been in contact with them for the past 2 years, even before they got to Washington. They always kept a relationship with me wherever they went.”
Laffitte got to know Inge at an offensive and defensive lineman camp in Redlands, California before they moved to Seattle. Now, standing 6-4 and weighing 290 pounds, the Husky coaches let him know that an offer would be coming his way–again.
“Just wait on it,” was the message from Inge and Schmidt when they got to Seattle, he said. “They offered me at Fresno State. So I was like ‘ok, I’ll wait on it. I’ll trust them.’ They gave me my first offer.”
The wait went on for a couple of months as he was reevaluated for a fit into the Washington program.
Meanwhile offers streamed in from Arizona, Colorado, Utah and others.
Finally, on September 7th, fourteen months after his first Division 1 offer from Fresno State, the Huskies tabled an offer for him.

“I’ll most definitely be coming to Seattle for a game,” he grinned. “I can’t wait to get out there.”
Being in Seattle is something that he’s looking forward to after a few conversations with a former Colony alumnus, and former Seattle Seahawk linebacker, Bobby Wagner who led Colony to a CIF-SS division championship in 2007.
Academics are a priority for the defensive tackle. When choosing a school he’s looking to focus on a business/real estate degree. He’s also looking for the right personality fit.
“Brotherhood and the camaraderie,” he said are important factors. “I want to see how the team does together. If they gel together.”
How the DeBoer staff treats their players has impressed him.
“They treat their athletes like they’re their own sons,” he said. “That’s what really sticks out to me. That’s what’s going to set any college apart from any other one.”
He has not set a timeline for trimming his list of schools in consideration yet, as he is enjoying the recruiting process–which is heating up. He will announce his commitment on November 21st, his mother’s and sister’s birthdays.
His Power 5 offers include Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and Tennessee.
