Washington Women’s Basketball Wins Rainbow Wahine Showdown, Remains Undefeated

After hitting the road for the first time this season, the Washington women’s basketball team remains undefeated after being crowned champions of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu, Hawaii. The squad heads home with a 58-41 Sunday night victory over Hawaii, and is now 7-0.

Twenty-point wins over both Idaho State and Air Force preceded the championship game, with multiple Huskies putting up solid numbers in all three.

Junior forward Dalayah Daniels led UW on multiple fronts against the Rainbow Warriors (2-5), nabbing a season high of 19 points. Her nine rebounds cemented a career milestone, as she simultaneously clinched her 500th ever, along with two blocks.

Freshman guard Sayvia Sellers was the one other Husky who reached double digits, putting up 10 points, with senior forward Lauren Schwartz following right behind her with nine.

Sophomore guard Elle Ladine raked in eight total points and six rebounds, and junior Jayda Noble finished with seven points and five rebounds, in addition to two first quarter steals.

Guard Hannah Stines capped off the night with a team-high four assists, with five points of her own.

UW ended up going on two 7-0 runs after entering halftime with a two-point lead, solidifying its decisive 17-point victory.

Washington out-rebounded Hawaii 36-27, and held the Rainbow Warriors to 27.7% on the floor, below their season average and much below the 46% the Huskies managed.

As the cherry on top, Lauren Schwartz was named Tournament MVP at the end of the evening, and Dalayah Daniels and Hannah Stines were added to the five-person All-Tournament Team.

The Huskies will be back at home next Saturday to take on San Francisco. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Final weekend scores:

Game 1: Washington  57, Idaho State 37

Game 2: Washington 73, Air Force 53

Game 3: Washington 58, Hawaii 41
