UW WBB: Huskies Sign Top-10 Ranked Recruiting Class

SEATTLE – First-year head coach Tina Langley and her staff made a huge splash on signing day Wednesday, supplementing their future team with ESPN.com’s tenth-ranked recruiting class. The Huskies have added a trio of top-100 rated guards from California: Teagan Brown, Elle Ladine and Hannah Stines.

“We are so humbled and grateful to these young women and their families for their commitment to the University of Washington and the future of this program,” Langley said. “They each embody the values of our culture in their character, their humility, and their selfless ambition to pursue greatness both on and off the court. We are excited to join them on their journey of ‘Becoming’ at Washington and beyond.”

Brown is a protégé from the Jason Kidd 17U Select program and is rated 78th in the ESPNW 100 rankings. The 5-10 guard from El Dorado Hills, Calif., averaged 18.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 3.3 assists in 2020-21 for Oak Ridge High School. She is a two-time MVP of the Sierra Foothills League and has twice been named First Team All-Sacramento Metro. She averaged 17.5 points per game as a sophomore and 16.0 points and was named to the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Freshman Team in 2018.

“Teagan is a combo guard with athleticism and speed that set her apart,” Langley said. “Her play in the open court combined with her ability to shoot the three are what makes her a perfect addition to our system. Teagan embodies what Washington basketball stands for in her love for others and love for growth. She will elevate our culture and we can’t wait to welcome her to Montlake.”

Stines hails from La Mirada, Calif., and stars for Troy High School in Fullerton after spending the previous year at Orangewood Academy. She is the highest-rated member of the Huskies’ signing class according to ESPNW, checking in at 39th overall, No. 8 at her position. She also plays for the Cal Storm Team Taurasi, teaming with fellow signee Elle Ladine. In 2020-21, Stines was All-CIF Southern Section, All-State First Team, All-Orange County, and the San Joaquin League Player of the Year for Orangewood Academy. Previously at Troy HS, she earned First Team All-State, All-CIF, All-Orange County and Freeway League MVP in 2019-20 and was All-State, All-CIF and First Team Freeway League as a freshman in 2018-19.

“Hannah is an elite point guard. She is a highly skilled player who thinks the game and can score the ball at all three levels,” Langley said. “Hannah elevates her teammates with her passing ability and poise with the ball. More so, she is an outstanding person that will only add to the culture we are building here at Washington. We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Hannah to our program.”

Ladine hails from San Francisco and plays for Pinewood High School, while also teaming with Stines on the AAU circuit. She is ranked 52nd overall in the ESPNW 100 rankings, No. 13 overall at her position. Ladine helped Pinewood to a 17-0 record and the 2021 CCS Open Division Championship. In 2020, she played for Lowell HS and was AAA All-League First Team. Her dad, Clint, is the boys’ basketball coach at Pinewood and her brother, Clayton, plays professionally in Iceland.

“Elle is dynamic – both in personality and capability,” Langley said. “Her feel for the game allows her to play anywhere along the perimeter, handling the ball and hitting the open shot. There is no limit to her ceiling. Elle works hard and wants to be great for her teammates. Her personality is electric – and we can’t wait to have her in our locker room.”
