Texas Tight End Says Husky Offer a “Big One”

Washington needs another tight end in this class, and tonight they threw their hat into the ring for Southlake Carroll (TX) tight end, Blake Smith.

Smith, who’s 6-5, 240, has been on the radar most of the spring for Washington, and last week Jordan Paopao spoke with him and set up a call between Smith and Chris Petersen.

That convo came down this evening, and Smith was offered.

“It’s pretty exciting”, Smith said, “Especially to hear from Coach Petersen…the (Washington) offer is a big one because they don’t offer a lot of guys and just talking to Coach Petersen and hearing what he had to say about the culture up there and how I’d fit in speaks volumes.”

But Paopao has been building a good relationship with Smith as well, “We’ve bonded a lot”, Smith explained, “We’ve been texting back and forth and last week he came and saw me and then I called him that night and he set up the call with Coach Petersen.”

Right now Smith has so many offers, he can’t remember what the actual count is, “I think it’s in the mid twenties”, he laughed.

The scouting report on Smith is that he’s an imposing tight end with excellent blocking skills, but he’s also very versatile, “For my size I feel like I can be quick and shifty.”

Smith has also played quarterback for his team, but tight end is his ticket to the next level, and he even had thought that basketball might be his main sport, but football is where it’s at now.

He’s a true leader on the field and will be a senior captain in 2019, and with the athletic skillset and the exceptional work in the classroom, Smith is the complete package.

“I’m going to be taking a visit up to Washington soon”, he said, “I want to have my decision done before the start of my season.”

Smith has already been to several schools unofficially, such as TCU, Duke, Boston College, Oklahoma State, “and a couple more”, he added.

After spring football has ended, he is hoping to sit down with his family and coach and start going through all the offers and narrowing things down, “I have no set date”, he said of his decision, “But before the season.”

We’ll continue to keep tabs on Smith going forward.
