Shades of John Ross: Washington Commit Mimics 2016 California TD

Jason Robison shares more that just the same initials as Washington Husky legend, John Ross, he shares some of his moves.

Friday night under the lights for San Juan Hills High School, the class of 2024 Washington Husky football commit spun, slithered, shucked and juked his way to 5 catches for 140 yards and a touchdown.

A one-time USC commit came up inches short of his second touchdown on perhaps his best catch of the night.

”It was a contested catch,” the 4-star pass catcher said.  “My dad and I work on that all the time.  It’s about timing your jump so that you high-point the ball.”

After a double move, he spun 180-degrees and went up for the ball.  He and the Oceanside defender fell to the ground just shy of the goal line.

On his other four receptions he beat defenders with an array of moves, reminiscent of John Ross against California in 2016.

Ross’ catch was in the middle of the field and his multiple shoulder dips and jukes that were far enough down field that didn’t run directly into traffic.

That night Ross caught 6 balls for 208 yards and 3 TDs.

On two other catches, Robinson didn’t have the advantage advantage of being in the open field yet had 15 yards after the catch after making the first defender miss.

His other catch he made a move and beat defenders to the pylon for the touchdown.

“It was just instincts,” Robinson said about his dizzying array of moves in San Juan Hills’ season opener.  “I’ve watched John Ross all of my life and that probably helped in the moment, as well.”

Over the weekend his highlights received nearly 100,000 views.  Word got to Washington Head Coach Kalen DeBoer, prompting a phone call.

“He called to congratulate me on the game,” Robinson said.  “He said that he didn’t get to watch my film yet, but that he was looking forward to checking it out.”

Since his summer-time transfer to SJH, when he’s not been working on adding players to Washington’s 2024 recruiting class he’s been engrossed in his new playbook or working on his craft.

Robinson is back in action this coming Saturday at two versus California High School at 2 pm.
