Local TE Ryan Otton was extremely pleased with the home visit from Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb earlier this week.
The 4-star prospect spoke with Realdawg.com about his thoughts on the new coaches, and what’s next.
“I really like them”, Otton said, “They’re great guys.”
Otton finished his season with five touchdowns and over 300 passing yards, and now he’s ready to begin his hoops season with an opener on Tuesday against Aberdeen.
As of right now he’s still solid to Washington.
“I committed and bought in to everything at Washington”, he explained, “I want to be a Husky.”
But he may wait until February to sign, simply because DeBoer hasn’t yet hired a tight end coach, “There’s no name right now, but I know he’s close”, Otton said.
In the meantime, he’s impressed with DeBoer and what Grubb described to him as the offense the Huskies will be running, “I like what he talked about offensively”, Otton said, “We talked a lot about how he’ll use the tight ends.”
It also helps that there will be some hold-overs from the former staff, “It’s nice to have to people from the previous staff who I already know”, he said.
But DeBoer was the main focus for Otton, and he delivered.
“My first impression of Coach DeBoer is that he’s smart, cares a lot about his players, and we talked a lot about my position”, Otton said,, “My dad was real happy.”
