Husky Offer Could Now Sway Cali Tight End

With 10 offers already, La Habra, CA. tight end, Mason West received an 11th today after talking with Chris Petersen. Could this be a game changer for him?

“I think I’d fit real well in that environment”, West said of the opportunity at Washington, “I have cousins in Seattle who have a condo and so if I went there my mom would be able to come up and stay for free.”

West has been to Washington before; during the spring he came up to check out the scene on Montlake, “I loved it up there”, he said.

Washington coaches were able to get a close look at West during the camp season at Whittier, and it’s no secret that they are on the hunt for a couple more tight ends for this class.

In a normal year they would take at least one, but last year they didn’t land any — so this year it’s not unreasonable to believe they take three.

Washington uses two tight ends on almost every down and Jordan Paopao needs to make sure that it’s a “next man up” situation for years to come in the Husky offense — so this is just smart recruiting.

(Jacob Kizer played 12 of 13 games his true freshman season)

At 6-4, 240, West is a guy who has an older brother who’s 6-7 and his growth plates are still open. West is the quintessential, college prototype tight end who has above-average hands, no fear of catching the ball across the middle, a good blocker who can set the edge – and with a few more pounds he’ll be a monster.

As for West’s decision, he is going to mull things over at this point, and had hoped to have his decision done by this summer so this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
