WOOF: Huskies Reel in Juco Punter, Triston Brown

Washington only has one year left from current punter, Joel Whitford, so since January they’ve been on the hunt for a guy who could come in and take over where Whitford leaves off — and that guy is Mt. Sac punter, Triston Brown.

Brown, who is originally from Brea High School in So Cal, is #1 rated and has been working hard to get a D1 offer and further his career, “It started about a year ago and I had taken some time off”, the 6-1 1/2, 200 lb. punter told Realdawg.com, “My step dad had played and so I gave it a shot and decided I might as well put my full effort into it.”

So Brown acquired a trainer, began attending camps, and went to work with Chris Sailer.

“I emailed Coach Gregory back in January and then he came and watched me (in the spring) and liked how I did — so I came to camp.”

He as at the kicking camp last Saturday at Husky Stadium, “I was given the tour”, Brown said, “I love it up there — I knew I could call this place home.”

Washington offered, “They asked me if I want to be a Dawg, and I said ‘yes'”.

On the field Brown’s longest punt is 67 yards, his hang time is getting to be around 5 seconds, and he did play safety and punter in high school. His step father played for UCLA back in the early 90’s and has been his biggest tutor.

Brown plans to enroll at Washington in January, and is redshirting as he finishes up getting his AA degree — then he’ll have three years to play at Washington.

Gregory has been the main coach recruiting Brown and coaches the kickers and punters, “He’s amazing”, Brown said of Gregory, “He’s just a fun guy and has a lot of energy.”

This was going to be a huge need for Washington going into 2020, and Gregory did search far and wide looking for the right fit — Brown was that guy.

The scouting report on Brown is that he has a big leg and, being 22 years old (his birthday is today), he is an extremely bright young man and is very focused on continuing to hone his craft as he takes his talent to the next level.
