On what was originally supposed to be a quiet signing day, Ja’Lynn Polk has decided to announce his commitment to Washington! The former four-star receiver prospect out of Lufkin High School in Texas originally committed to Texas Tech out of high school, but decided to enter the transfer portal after just one season with the Red Raiders.
For wide receivers coach Junior Adams, this is a big win after losing Ty Jones to the transfer portal, and only bringing in one receiver during the 2021 recruiting cycle. Polk has a lot to offer this Husky offense, and as he continues to develop as an all-around player, he could end up becoming a star in John Donovan’s scheme.
The 6’2 receiver has a moldable frame, and can turn into an excellent red zone target just like Jones was during his time at Washington. He can high point the football with his long arms, and can make plays in contested catch scenarios. Polk’s most exciting trait is his route running ability. He has great feet and can be utilized as a security blanket in third and short-mid scenarios on a quick slant pattern.
This could be the start of making more use of not only the transfer portal, but pulling top tier players out of Texas. Polk and class of 2021 commit Caleb Berry were high school teammates, and if Levi Onwuzurike gets drafted in the first round, that could be further proof that Washington has a lot to offer kids from Texas. Berry has been a fierce advocate for the program on Twitter, and once Polk announced Washington as part of his top three, it almost seemed like a sure thing that he would be joining his former teammate once again.
