Aside from the Huskies getting their first victory of the 2021 season, there were some good things that took place over the weekend worth talking about.
Jalen McMillan is ballin…
Hello Jalen, and welcome to the endzone. By the 14:52 mark of the second quarter, Jalen McMillan had already passed the century mark for receiving yards (5 catches, 101 yards). He ended the first half with 7 catches for 152 yards and his first career TD. He is the first Pac-12 player to have 150 yards by halftime since UW’s John Ross had 164 by the break at Cal on Nov. 5, 2016. McMillan’s 175 yards were the 19th most
receiving yards in team history and the most since Ross had 206 in that same Cal game. McMillan entered the game with 1 career reception for 16 yards.
Sean McGrew lives!
It doesn’t matter if he racks up 30 or 100 yards in a game, Sean McGrew moves the chains whenever he gets in. While most Husky fans were wondering where in the heck he was the past couple of weeks preceding the Arkansas game, he made his presence known (again) on Saturday by getting into the endzone twice.
He came, he visited, he’s still solid..
It was only an unofficial trip, but offensive line commit, Parker Brailsworth was in Seattle over the weekend and still wants to be a Husky. Despite the bad start for the Dawgs, and despite the rain and sparse crowd at Husky Stadium. Brailsworth will be back too. In fact, there has been no rumors of any 2022 commit jumping ship over the lousy start, but the Huskies need to keep winning and showing that they are moving in an upward direction.
The benchwarmers got warm on the field…
The second and third string were able to get in the game Saturday, and that’s what you want to see in a pre-season, non-conference game. These guys must get their feet wet and get those jitters out before you enter conference play, and it just can’t happen when you’re playing tight games like Montana (eww) and Michigan (understandable). But with the Huskies’ blowout of ASU, the younger guys were able to get in and get live game experience. The following players made their Husky debuts today: Davon Banks, Ruperake Fuavai, Ben Hines, Sam Huard, Elijah Jackson, Patrick O’Brien, Meki Pei, Jay’Veon Sunday and Jabez Tinae. A total of 23 players have made their Husky debuts in 2021.
Jake Fricken Haener..
I know it’s not Husky news, and it was probably a colossal disappointment for UCLA fans, that performance by former Husky, Jake Haener was breathtaking Saturday night. You couldn’t help but be extremely proud of this young man and what he was able to do in order to lead his Fresno State team to a win over #13 UCLA. The kid has ice in his veins, and Husky fans should all be proud of him.
