Five candidates to replace Junior Adams

Five candidates to replace Junior Adams

After Junior Adams left Washington for Oregon to take their open receiver’s coach position, Kalen DeBoer needs to find a way to fill his role quickly. So with that being said, who should be on his shortlist of interviews?

Thomas Ford, UW Offensive Analyst

Of all the staff members that were retained from the 2021 season, Ford is arguably the most important. His younger brother, Tracy Ford, runs Ford Sports Performance, one of the most prestigious training facilities on the west coast, which also happens to be located just across Lake Washington, in Bellevue. The relationships that he can build from FSP alone should be enough to retain Ford, but on top of that, he’s an excellent coach and recruiter who absolutely deserves an opportunity to be a position coach at the D1 level. Recruits have sung praises for Ford, and DeBoer needs to keep him on staff by whatever means necessary.

Tyler Osborne, Sacramento State Wide receivers coach

Osborne was on staff with Washington between 2017 and 2019 as a GA, and has established great relationships with all the receivers currently on the roster. Losing Adams to an outside hire might be tough to mend those relationships with the players. Osborne also has a long relationship with the players on the roster, along with the Pacific Northwest. He also possesses a wealth of knowledge, as his father Tom was a receiver at Washington State. Tom also coached at a number of programs, including four Pac-12 schools between 1983 and 2016.

Jermaine Kearse, Former UW receiver

Kearse, who was hired to the Washington staff in late 2020 as a program assistant, would be an excellent hire as the team’s position coach. Kearse spent seven years as an NFL receiver after his Husky career, and as a product of Lakewood High, would be an excellent addition to assist in in-state recruiting. The Super Bowl champion would be a great on-field developer as well, and can bring a boost to the program which needs to make a better connection with a lot of football alumni.

Kirby Moore, Fresno State Offensive Coordinator

Maybe? Just maybe? Moore was rumored to be headed back to UW for a while, but a promotion and pay raise from Jeff Tedford and Fresno State seemed to be enough to convince him to stay. A former graduate assistant under Chris Petersen at Washington, could a significant pay raise that Fresno State can’t match, along with the title of co-offensive coordinator be enough to sway Kellen Moore’s younger brother to come back to Montlake? Never say never.

Joel Filani, Texas Tech Receivers Coach

This is a name given to me by a person I trust as a possibility. There’s no smoke here (yet), but my source made some great points about the former Titans receiver because of his connections from his time at Boise State. He’s helped develop Texas Tech’s first All Big-12 first-team receiver since Michael Crabtree, and also showed how well he can develop talent during his time at North Texas, where he coached current Los Angeles Chargers receiver Jalen Guyton. He hasn’t had a ton of real tests as a recruiter, but he deserves a shot at a bigger program.
