First Quarter Summary

Kick-Off

The Huskies kickoff to the Longhorns and Texas gets a big return for 31 yards. The UW fans traveled well and forced the first penalty of the day on a false start. Quinn Ewers looked a little sloppy as his passes were closer to any Husky that his recievers. Dominique Hampton had a big knock down. The only negative to the opening drive was a 16 yard run by CJ Baxter. The punt was intentionally away from Germie Bernard and the Huskies were pinned deep.

Texas starts defense with a flag, encroachment gives UW a free five. Dillon Johnson gets a touch to pick up the first. Penix drops back for the first big shot of the game, and he has Ja’Lynn Polk. Pole reals it in and breaks the first tackle, but ends up dragged down on the three for a gain of 77 yards. Dillon Johnson got the carry and finished the drive off with a score. 7-0.

Texas took some notes and started with a rush for eight. Huskies pass rushers were all over the backfield but the screen to Baxter went for 31. The four man pressure forces Ewers out of the pocket but he has space to run for a first. CJ Baxter is running wild so far,t he Huskies cannot make a tackle. Texas takes it down inside the five before Jaydon Blue gets the goal line touch in to make it 7-7.

Dillon Johnson is the workhorse right now. The O-line is buying time but not enough for Penix to find space. UW goes three and out. Texas lines up empty backfield and of course Bralen Trice is there for a big sack knocking Ewers down for a six yard loss. Texas gets a hold on third and 13 and on the third and 17 it’s another hold. Short carry means Husky football.

Germie Bernard makes a freakish catch to gain 24 going up over a defender and bringing it down. Penix fires a rocket into the hands of Rome Odunze, an absolute dart despite Longhorn pressure.
