Dawgs Take Game Two of Italy Tour, 91-46

ROME, Italy – After a busy morning of touring the Vatican City, the Washington men’s basketball team returned to court for game two of it’s Italy Tour earning a 91-46 victory over the Peak Warriors for the second-straight night. The Huskies never trailed and finished the Rome portion of the trip 2-0. Washington next heads to Florence tomorrow and will compete in two more games while continuing the cultural experience of being in Italy.

The Dawgs were led by freshman Isaiah Stewart who recorded a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds. The power forward was dominate throughout the game being able to do what he wanted in the paint as all of his 11 baskets came inside the key. Additionally, junior Nahziah Carter continued his hot shooting streak in Rome as he tallied 18 points and added six rebounds.

“This trip so far has been a great experience for our team,” said head coach Mike Hopkins. “We’ve been able to experiment with some lineups, play some man-to-man and most importantly experience the culture and history of Rome. I’ve been pleased with the guys’ attitudes and energy in our games and we’ve seen some really good things so far that we’ll be able to build upon.”

Washington once again jumped out to a quick lead and never let go of it throughout the contest getting a 42-20 lead at halftime which then blossomed into a 64-30 margin at the beginning of the fourth. Overall the Huskies allowed just 17 made baskets while forcing 16 turnovers.

The Dawgs also recorded 15 steals, 13 assists and pulling down 53 rebounds. Another highlight for UW was redshirt freshman Nate Roberts who added nine rebounds off the bench for the second-straight game and tallied seven points.

Washington heads to Florence on Saturday and will continue its cultural education before taking on Pistoia on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT. All of UW’s games are live streamed on FloHoops.com.
