Closing Time for Washington’s Staff

Closing Time for Washington’s Staff

It’s closing time… or as Pam Halpert put in The Office, “da da da duh duh from…” Washington just wrapped up their first weekend of official visits in what director of player personnel Courtney Morgan has dubbed “No Sleep June,” and the initial returns from the visits have been very positive. But that’s just step one of putting together an elite recruiting class, step two is closing on some of these visitors, and step three is profit (last TV reference today I promise).

Among the visitors from June 3rd-5th were four-star quarterback Avery Johnson, four-star defensive lineman Trey Wilson, three-star wide receiver Beni Ngoyi, and three-star defensive lineman Jaeden Moore. Realdawg.com’s Reece McCulley did a full breakdown of the weekend right here, check it out!

Social media is always the early gauge of how the visitors enjoyed their time on campus, and both Twitter and Instagram have been buzzing all weekend, and it didn’t take long for some other major targets who are scheduled to take an official visit later this month to take notice.

The entire staff, from the coaches to the recruiting and media staff, have really upped their game, as director of video production Kasey Byers posted some intriguing things too. Byers’ Instagram story featured a preview of an on-field setup that included purple lighting in the stadium, and fluorescent purple light rods for what looked like a late-night photo shoot. While no photos have been posted from that portion of the visit, the entire creative team has done an excellent job upping Washington’s photo shoots, which is something that Chris Petersen didn’t seem to want to invest a ton of energy in during his time as head coach.

Wilson also shared on his Instagram account that head coach Kalen DeBoer brought back one of the only bright spots of the Jimmy Lake era, a seaplane tour of Seattle as part of the official visit. One thing that director of recruiting Spencer Henkle said earlier in the year is that attention to deal is everything on an official visit, and that mindset sounds like it’s paying off.

The early returns from the visit sound like all four recruits, three of whom are from outside of Washington’s normal recruiting footprint, were incredibly impressed by the visit. The staff did such a great job with four-star receiver Rashid Williams that he decided to cancel all his other official visits and commit to DeBoer and co., and if the staff can prove they can close on one or two more players before the next big weekend, that will keep the momentum ball rolling in their favor.
