The Washington Huskies have received the commitment of 4-star wide receiver Taeshaun Lyons from Hayward, California.
At one point it was thought that Lyons had eliminated the Huskies from the schools he was considering.
To wrap up June’s big recruiting weekend, Lyons along with, 4-star QB Lincoln Kienholz, 4-star OL Micah Banuelos, and 4-star athlete Vincent Holmes all visited Washington on the 24th. The Huskies were once thought to be a shoe-in for Banuelos but he eliminated them. However, UW received the pledge of Kienholz and Holmes that and many were expecting Lyons to join the other two but it never happened.
Then Michael Penix happened.
On Friday at 4:15 pm the eyes of of Miami, Florida; South Bend, Indiana; Eugene Oregon; and Seattle, Washington will turn to Tennyson High School (California) as Lyons will announce his decision between Washington, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Miami.
After his visit to Washington this past June Lyons appeared to be choosing between Washington and Notre Dame before the trail went cold. However, he recently included the Huskies in his top 8 along with Miami, Oregon, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan State, ASU, and Utah. At that time he was projected by many to land in South Bend.
If the Huskies can land Lyons he will be the second four-star wide receiver (Rashid Williams) along with 3-star (Keith Reynolds) that receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard has landed for the class of 2023.
Lyons was able to see the NFL Draft stock rise for the Huskies current receivers as Penix led the nation’s number 1 passing attack.
He is a rangy 6-2, 170-pound two-sport athlete. He’s a track star who can catch passes. While he will add more weight when he gets to college, his explosiveness is what makes him a highly sought-after prospect.
If the coaching staff can land Lyons, it mark the biggest recruiting win thus far, he would be the highest-rated player of this class, and demonstrate the staff’s ability of recruiting for DeBoer and company.
