The Washington Pro-Day was a big deal. With 100’s of NFL scouts in attendance, and even head coach sittings, it was a big day for everyone involved. A star-studded Husky class got their opportunity to add on to what was a pretty successful combine for the class. Here’s who RealDawg thought won, because here didn’t seem to be many losers on Montlake.
Winners:
Devin Culp: Culp made headlines at the NFL combine by leading tighteneds with a 4.47 40-yard dash. Culp backed up that speed with more of his impressive athleticism. He jumped an impressive 36-inch on the vertical testing, and moved well in all of the cone drills. Culp was also one of the receivers catching throws from Penix as he and the UW quarterback combined for some of the best throws of the workout. Culp showed off his route tree and solid hands.
Jack Westover: Mr. Consistent all year Westover again showed to be solid as ever. Catching passes from Michael Penix Westover showed off the hands that made him a key piece of the Husky’s offense. While not the same name profile as some of the other Huskies Westover has proved to be one of the most reliable targets on late down, and late game, throws. Westover not only caught our eye but the attention of NFL scouts. It was reported that Westover was told “We’ve got our eye on you” by an attending scout after his day.
Dom Hampton: Over six seasons in Seattle, Hampton has been a Husky longer than anyone. His 2023-24 campaign was a huge step up from previous years, and likely vaulted him up into NFL draft conversations. Hampton is likely a late-round pick but has been noted as a sleeper by many experts. NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah labeled Hampton as his “biggest surprise” from the Huskies combine class. Hampton backed it up on Thursday, as he moved incredibly well in every drill and showed great ball-playing ability from a strong safety.
More Winners:
Michael Penix: This was a day of realization for a lot fo NFL experts. Michael Penix Jr. was once considered a first round pick, but had recently fallen into the second round on most boards. But after his “freak show” of a pro-day Penix has been called a first-round lock by NFL coaches. His 4.46 40-yard dash and 36-inch vertical jump added freaky physical traits onto the quarterback that was considered one of the best arms in the world. Penix has vaulted himself right back into the first round by answering every question mark that analysts had given him.
Bralen Trice: Another Husky who seems locked as an early round pick, Trice got the opportunity to one up a combine performance that he was not satisfied with. “I didn’t get to [perform at my best] at the combine.” But Trice sure performed close to his best on Thursday. He backed up his almost 40-inch combine vertical with a good showing on the defensive line drills. He was excellerating well and was dynamic in movement during pass rusher drills. Trice looked aggressive in pursuit and had great body and hand control throughout drills.
Loser:
Whoever lost their first round spot to Roger Rosengarten: With so many players already looking like first-round contenders, the Huskies might have one more case. Roger Rosengarten seriously showed up at the Huskies pro day. The senior offensive lineman was previously penciled in as a day 2 pick, but after what the scouts saw out of him today, he might end up in the top 32. Working with a mountain of a man in projected first-round pick Troy Fautano, Rosengarten did more than simply hold his own. He was violent and decisive in protection drills showing off an elite bag, while also moving surprisingly well in the mobility testing. Rosengarten was the talk of the workout for both media and scouts.
