WOOF: Huskies Get First Pickup of Sprinkle Era

WOOF: Huskies Get First Pickup of Sprinkle Era

Coach Danny Sprinkle is right back to building. After taking a Utah State team with zero returning points to the tournament, Sprinkle will get the opportunity to work his magic again. His first addition? Rice guard Mekhi Mason. Mason officially committed to the University of Washington last night,

Mason was a big piece last year on the Rice Owls. Averaging 14 points and 4 rebounds as a guard, Mason will be a nice addition to a team on the rebuild. Mason provides good size for his position and a great scoring upside. The sophomore shot 34% from three last season for an Owl’s team that struggled down the stretch. Mason built off a C-USA all-freshman season with a big leap forward in the American Athletic Conference. With Rice making the jump from Conference USA to the AAC Mason’s numbers jumped, signaling that he will be ready for the Power 5 test.

Mason is an Arizona native, and if that sounds familiar to you, you would be right. Mason shares a hometown with current Husky guard Nate Calmese, who had a very similar story transferring to Washington. Both of the Gilbert Arizona natives are high-upside guards who, if they see the floor, could become key pieces to Danny Sprinkle’s team.
