4-Star Washington Receiving Target Picks Oregon Ahead of Seattle Visit

Scratch the name Dillon Gresham off of your Washington Official Visit Tracker.  The Huskies were set to host the 4-star receiver the weekend of June 16th but he has changed course and committed to the Oregon Ducks, he announced on Twitter.  Last season the Huskies staged two big recruiting weekends in late June and it paid off with landing several commits.  However, the delay may have backfired this year with the loss of one of their 3 remaining receiving targets picking the team down south.

The San Jacinto High School receiver had 90 catches for 2,051 yards and 31 touchdowns as a junior, had Washington on his top 3 along with Oregon and Arizona.

“I wouldn’t say that Washignton’s plan backfired because he had a personal timetable that set on May 18th where he’d commit on May 22,” RealDawg.com lead high school scout Trevor Mueller noted.  “Like with Paki Finau picking Washington a few weeks ago, I’m sure that the Huskies would have taken Gresham or any other player who has the plan to commit before an official visit.”

That said, the Washington coaches have stated the importance of culture immersion when a recruit is on campus.

“The Husky coaches let the players do the recruiting.  Once the players are on campus they can feel the family atmosphere and that paid off handsomely last year.” Muller continued.  “It’s too bad that UW won’t get a shot to land him on an official visit.”

Gresham has not clarified if he will still be attending Washington’s recruiting weekend on the 16th of next month, but it’s expected that he has canceled that plan.  He did have 2 unofficial visits to Seattle, including one in April.

For the weekend that Gresham was going to visit the Huskies still have 5 players set for official visits, including commits QB EJ Caminong and receiver, Ladon Bell.  Others expected are linebacker Kamar Mothudi, receiver Kwazi Gilmer, and edge defender Dominic Kirks.  In all, in the final two weeks of June Washington has 19 other official visits set.
