Washington dipped into the Loyola High School (Pasadena, CA) a few years back and offered a corner a chance to walk-on. Fast forward to 2019 and that same “walk-on” has been on scholarship and making plays as a starting senior.
Loyola is the home of Myles Bryant, and it’s also the home of a 2021 corner named Zakhari Spears.
Spears just got offered over the weekend by the coaches, calling the offer “Huge”.
“The amount of kids they offer per class, and the players they produce makes it one to remember. I’m grateful to be apart of their recruiting list.”
Will Harris and Jimmy Lake have been keeping an eye on Spears for quite awhile now, and after receiving some more recent film, the offer went out.
“I’ve met with and spoken to Coach Lake and Coach Harris on multiple occasions and its always pleasure”, Spears said, “The relationship is great.”
At 6-3, 182, Spears is a rangy corner who plays with a chip on his shoulder and hits like a brick. His closing speed is hard to miss. He’s a little similar to Kevin King after King went to corner, but Spears plays fast and physical and could wind up playing anywhere in the secondary under Jimmy Lake’s system.
Washington’s offer came just in time because Spears is becoming a pretty popular guy; he holds 11 offers and the Pac-12 schools already in the hunt include Washington, Washington State, Utah, Cal, Oregon State, and ASU.
Definitely keep an eye on this prospect going forward. He’s listed right now as a 3-star prospect, but if his offer list continues to grow and he has strong showings this spring at the combines, a fourth star could be on the horizon.
