Live Washington Practice Updates: Day 9

Live Washington Practice Updates: Day 9

It is an absolutely perfect day in Seattle but, at the greatest setting in college football it is even better.

The temperature was 66 at the start of practice.

— the first unit on the field was the defensive line, almost in its entirety.

— safeties Coach Vinnie Sunseri was out early, working on some of his individual ball handling. He balanced the ball on his finger tip for about a minute, then he palmed the ball, dropped it spun it on its end, threw a couple of fastballs to somebody, and took a few jump shots.  Tristan Dunn saw what Sunseri was doing as he walked up and tried to balance the ball on his finger tip, but only got it for about three seconds.  Tristan Dunn then showed off his fastball and impressed Sunsiri.

A good little bit of teasing between Dunn and where Tristan called him short and his coach said that he was surprised that he knew how to throw a ball.

— again, Ryan Otton looks very healthy.  Owen Coutts catches everything, Quentin Moore made a catch on a ball that looked like Ja’Lynn Polk’s fingertips only catch.

— running backs, we’re going through a bunch of their calls, making sure everybody was making the right cut off of the right foot in the right direction.  with the music off it was easy to hear how nuanced positioning was.

— an absolute ton of visitors, we will have a list shortly

— it’s a catch they won’t show up in the highlight reels, but Jason Robinson snatches the ball from around his shins without breaking stride and makes the cut

—scrimmage session 1–

—Jonah Coleman put his foot in the turf twice on his way to a 28 yard pick up. One of the best runs of the spring.

— Giles Jackson for five

— Jonah Coleman for 7 yards on fourth and one

— Owen Coutts with a great reception picks up 22

–15 yard penalty gives offense a first down.  That set up a Williams to Reynolds connection from 25 yards out for a touchdown.  Reynolds made a very difficult over the shoulder catch.

—Alfonso Tuputala sniffs out the Carrie by Coleman tackles in for maybe a 1 yard loss

—in what will be completely overlooked, one of the walk on tight ends, limped off of the field and coach fish came from the other end of the visitors sidelines to check on the player. Called him by his name, and make sure that he was OK.

— Jonah Coleman reversed field, cut back the other way had the ball, stripped it rolled around, and he scooped it up, brings up no gain on the play

— Rogers has not gone to his left him very much today but he does find a Giles Jackson for 17.  It may have been in touch sack that would not stand and during a game.

—Adam Mohammed stopped in the backfield for no gain

—Denzel Boston on go route had a defender beaten but just has a ball go between his hands

—Coutts found us a spot picks up nine on third and 14

— Williams with a deep ball to Hunter that could have used a little bit more air under it

— 4th and 8th with a false start.   On 4th and 15th Camdyn Sirmon has the ball go through his hands in the end zone it would have been a 53-yard touchdown.  A perfect ball from Williams

— it was not Michael Penix to Rome Odunze, and it was not Oregon, but a very nice comebacker by Hunter from Rogers

— from the 15 Rogers has to scramble, picks up six or seven

— 1st and 10 from the 14th, Williams scrambles for one.  Jeremiah Hunter with another touchdown.  On the previous play Hunter was matched up against Shaw and could not get past him

— Ngata with a nice touchdown reception from Rogers

— Rogers slips on the next play for an 11-yard loss.  Jacob Lane with a sack on Rogers.

–Future MMA star Landon Hatchet down doing some boxing

— DeckerDeGraaf catches a Crossing route for a touchdown from Williams.  Later in the same series DeGraff has a touchdown hold out of his hands by Indiana transfer, Jordan Shaw.   But Williams hit Hunter at the three and Hunter bold Shaw into the end zone for the touchdown

— Rogers to Boston good for 19

— Rogers dumps off to Jonah Coleman for 9.  Next play Coleman picks up too brings up first and 10

— Roger’s hands off to Muhammad who pushes his way for three.  Bryce Butler with a tfl. Followed by a screen pass to Hunter who picks up 17 on 3rd and 8.

— Denzel Boston with two Defenders on him has a teardrop fall into the basket. A perfect throw from Rogers

— Williams and Hunter not on the same page.  We need to have a husky Olympics to find out how fast Demond Williams is.

–3rd session

–Tunuufi with pressure on Rogers. Rogers is able to unload to Rasheed Williams who makes a one-handed catch, about 12 in off of the turf.

— second play of the third session and Elijah Jackson with a pi, giving a first angle at the nine

— Giles Jackson picks up two on 3rd and go from the 9th he gets the ball down to the seven

— Jacob Lane with his second sack of Rogers.  That says the field goal unit onto the field. Gross knocks it through from about 35

–Ngata with a 10 yd pickup

— transfer Bryce Butler has been good jamming up the middle

— the pocket collapses around Williams with 99, 90 and 92

— again a stop by the defense and Gross has to kick it from 35

— the gloves have come off and the defense is pushing back against the offense but Davis finds walk on Luke Luchini alone in the end zone for a 25-yard strike.

–Rashid ways with a 14-yard pickup on 3rd and 15. Gross remains on the sidelines with a hand off to Adam Mohammed who takes it down to the 6

— Lance holtzclaw in Esteem with a nice stop, from the 5 Rogers scrambles to his right throws to the end zone incomplete.  The defense holds on the next play and gross fix it through the uprights from 30

— Camden sermon misses a easy touchdown but he plucks the ball off of the turf for 12 yards on a scramble by williams.

— Camden sermon picks up a screen pass and takes it 7 yards down to the eight.

— Reynolds could not come up with the pass but Jordan Shaw comes up with the interception. He has had three big plays today.  Saved a touchdown that was ripped out of the hands of Degraaf.

— a rather inventive shovel pass from Rogers to Coleman for a touchdown from 7 yards out

— Reynolds 25 and then 12 in the 7 on 7.  Reynolds for 15 more against the ball down to the 15.  Jeremiah Hunter with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Williams
