Yes, it’s true…What Led up to the Departure of Yankoff and Sirmon though?

Realdawg.com reported prior to spring that we had heard rumblings of two quarterbacks leaving the program following spring football, but we had reason to believe it may, in stead be just one.

It was reported today that Colson Yankoff and Jacob Sirmon had entered the transfer portal, and while it’s a little shocking to some fans, it’s not shocking if you know what’s been going on behind the scenes.

Jacob Sirmon is not a surprise at this point. Sources close to the situation had reported that he and his family had a meeting prior to spring football and there was a question of whether or not he would be committed to the program going forward. At that time we heard that an agreement was reached and Sirmon had made this commitment.

But during spring football, while he did some very good things, Sirmon’s mind obviously changed.

As for Yankoff, this is a little more surprising. A source close to him told Realdawg.com earlier in the spring that Yankoff was “in it for the long haul”, despite concerns about too much attention being on Jacob Eason.

Eason, for the most part, became the heir apparent the second he stepped on the Washington campus — at least in the eyes of the local media and fans, and we even heard that there would be packages designed this year just for him to use his mobility.

We did speak with Yankoff’s father, Trevor, this evening, and he confirmed this to be true and his son will transfer.

As for where this leaves Washington in the quarterback room, they’re still in an enviable position because they have an experienced backup in Jake Haener, and true freshman Dylan Morris looked very good throughout the spring.

We heard this evening that both these quarterbacks and their families had serious concerns following Saturday’s preview and that the decision was made to enter the portal.

2020 commit, Ethan Garbers was just promoted to four stars, and Sam Huard is a five-star guy for 2021.

But the handwriting was beginning to take shape on the wall the minute Eason transferred into Washington, and in reality, this is just part and parcel of what happens when you have a lot of talent and depth and are building for a national title.
