WR Giles Jackson has found a new home

Junior Adams knew he needed to go out and add more playmakers after losing four wide receivers to the transfer portal. He got himself an electric one in former Michigan Wolverine Giles Jackson. Originally a four-star recruit, Jackson played at Freedom High School in Oakley, California before committing to Michigan.

Even though he’s listed at just 5’9, and 188 pounds, Jackson displays great speed on film, especially as a kick returner. Over his two seasons at Michigan, he recorded 24 catches for 309 yards, and two total touchdowns from scrimmage (one of them being a rushing touchdown).  He’s also an elite kick returner, with 976 return yards on 37 attempts and two touchdowns in those two years, averaging 26.4 yards per return.

With Michigan’s offense struggling in recent years, it seems Jackson felt it best to transfer closer to home, as his final five schools included all Pac-12 options in Washington, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, and Washington State.

Jackson also has family ties to the Husky program, which might have influenced his decision. His cousin, safety Vince Nunley, is a Washington signee in the class of 2021, also out of Freedom.

With the limited amount of bodies in the room, expect Jackson to have a big role in the offense and on special teams right away. While he probably won’t start at receiver right away, he will more than likely be the starting kick returner on opening day. And when he does see the field on offense, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see offensive coordinator John Donovan use a lot of motion to get the ball into his hands.

With four receivers coming out and three coming in, including freshman Jabez Tinae enrolling this summer, the room is still down a body from where it was going into the 2020 campaign. While it doesn’t sound like there is another transfer imminent, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Adams was looking at other names in the portal.
