WOOF: Washington Lands 3-Star California Pass Rusher

Standing at 6’5″, 225 pounds, Devin Hyde is a bully on the football field. Coming out of Menlo-Atherton High School in Menlo Park, California Hyde is a big pickup for the Huskies.

The Huskies beat out 13 other offers including a handful of southwest powers to land Hyde including UCLA, Arizona, and Cal.

Halfway through his visit to Cal, rumors surfaced that he was going to be a silent commit to Washington.

One of the coaches asked if what he had seen on the first day at Berkeley would sway him, he was honest and told them no

“I wasn’t going to take up any more of their valuable time, or take a bunch of free gear that I would never wear,” he said.

But his mother, a UW graduate told him how Husky football is king in Seattle on Saturdays.

“I could feel the excitement from the fans,” he said of the deciding factor. “Passing through the tailgates on the way to the Cal game it made me feel like how I felt when he fell in love with football.”

Washington is the complete package, he said.

“Where else can you play for a guy that coached in the NFL for 14 years and another guy who has 3 Super Bowl rings? Not a lot,” he said.

He was originally slated to commit in July but he chose now before he embarks on a European tour with his rugby team.

Hyde knows how to use his frame, and will show up in Seattle with Power 5 strength already a part of his bag. Along with that size and strength Hyde is a smart football player who rarely gets caught outside of a play.

Devin Hyde has the physical tools and will be given an opportunity to compete and make an impact that moment he walks onto the field.

He is Washington’s 6th public commitment for the 2025 recruiting class.
