Washington has picked up their sixth commit for the class of 2022, and their third offensive lineman in the class in Graham-Kapowsin’s Vega Ioane. The 6’4, 280 pound offensive lineman is also the third in-state athlete to announce he’ll be staying home to join the Huskies. The three-star guard was holding 12 offers, and Washington beat out a few conference rivals to secure his commitment, including USC and Arizona State, who were also vying for his services.
So why Washington? “Making this choice was pretty easy,” he said. “It’s home, and my connections and relationships with the Husky coaches are great which is very important to me.”
Joining Mark Nabou and Parker Brailsford along the line, Scott Huff has already put together a fierce group up front, and he’s not done just yet. Ioane also mentioned that he’s been keeping in touch with the other highly touted in-state linemen about joining up together on Montlake.
When asked about Huff, Ioane had nothing but great things to say about him, and his comments make it very easy to see why he’s such a great recruiter. “Coach Huff just has pure intentions of wanting to coach me up and trying to make me not only the best player I can be on the field, but the best person I can be off the field as well.”
While it appears the only spot left along the offensive line seems to be reserved for Rainier Beach tackle Josh Conerly, there’s a lot to be excited about with the class of 2022. With the Rising Stars camp coming up later in June, along with a slew of big time visitors, headlined by 2021 five-star defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau, Jimmy Lake and his staff are starting to gain a lot of traction on the recruiting trail, and there’s nowhere for them to go but up.
