It came down last week, but Lufkin, Texas 2021 tailback, Caleb Berry wanted to make sure he made his commitment announcement with some flavor.
“We have been working on this (video) all day”, Berry told Realdawg.com last Saturday evening, “We had to shoot one scene 12 times…I’m tired”.
Berry released the video this morning, and the die is cast: He’s a Husky.
“I just felt welcome whenever I talked to them on Zoom or Facetime, and I know these are coaches who could put me in the NFL. I believe in them and I have a real good relationship with Coach Lake.”
But Keith Bhonapha was the real hero in this; he’s done an excellent job the past two cycles recruiting top-tier tailbacks out of the Lone Star state, “He was hyped”, Berry said when asked what Bhonapha’s reaction was to his commitment, “They started barking and going ‘woof woof woof’.”
Berry chose the Huskies over 20 other offers, and at 6-1, 210, the sky is the limit to what he can do at the next level.
The Huskies offered Berry just two months ago on his birthday, and that was special for him because it was his birthday, “They talked about offering but wanted to wait so they could do it that day”, he said, “That made me realize how much they wanted me and about how they took the time to get to know me and know about me.”
That’s part of the reason that Berry has kept the Huskies close to his heart, “I admit, I gave two other schools the same chance to recruit me”, he said, “But I want to go to Washington”.
Berry will laugh and tell you he’s 6-1, “But 6-2 in cleats”, and his running style is similar to Derrick Henry — even though he’s a smaller version.
Berry runs upright with power, physicality, and speed; similar to Henry when he was playing for Alabama. Berry is excellent between the tackles but has enough speed to get outside and take it to the house. He also has good hands and the strong vision that Bhonapha loves to see in his tailbacks.
Not to mention the fact that Berry is a big back who can add another 10 to 15 pounds in college and be that true power back.
“I’m coming to start”, he said.
Even though his offer didn’t come until May, if you’re a Realdawg subscriber you know we have been talking about Berry on this site since February.
