WOOF: Puka Nacua Will Sign with Washington

It took a few days, but after giving it a lot of thought, Orem, UT. 4-star wideout, Puka Nacua finally arrived at a final decision: He will sign with the Huskies.

Nacua was an early lean to Washington, but he also loved USC and wound up committing to the Trojans back in the early summer after taking an unofficial trip to Los Angeles, but as time went on and the situation at USC became unstable, Nacua began to take official trips.

He visited Utah, Washington, UCLA, and Oregon, along with USC as well — but wound up opening things up this past week when he bypassed signing day and continued to deliberate on where he wanted to go to school.

There were rumblings that he was ready to flip to Washington during the Poly Bowl (where he earned Offensive MVP), but he squeezed last-minute trips in to Westwood and Eugene and felt he and his family had had no time to really sit down and make an informed decision.

Oregon faltered at the point at which they had still not hired a receivers coach, but the Husky coaches kept on and those long-established relationships were the final factor that tipped the scales.

Tonight, Nacua announced on Utah television that he will attend Washington and sign his letter. He would join an already 17th nationally rated class and be just the second receiver of the class.

The Huskies have done a tremendous job of recruiting the state of Utah since Ikaika Malloe took the helm as a defensive line coach, and even though he coaches the d-line, he still plays point on Utah players because he coached at Utah State.

But this was also a team effort, including Bush Hamdan and Junior Adams — and on a sidenote it was two years to the date today that Austin Osborne committed to play receiver at Washington.

So what are the Huskies getting with Nacua?

The scouting report on Nacua is that he’s the best receiver in the region and what makes him so special is his route-running abilities. Nacua is long and rangy and he just checks all the boxes of a guy who can make an impact  due to his crisp, anke-breaking routes.
