WOOF: Nevada OT Commits to Washington

Former Washingtonian and current Nevada offensive tackle, Troy Fautanu told Realdawg.com earlier today that he has committed to Washignton.

The official announcement from Fautanu is on Twitter, but the 6-4, 275 lb. product of Liberty High School in Henderson, Nevada talked to us prior to the announcement.

“Why Washington?”, he said, “Why not Washington. That’s the question I kept asking myself — then I sat down and talked with my parents about it and everything is right for me; from the coaching staff to the football program to academics.”

Fautanu was in Seattle back in June for an unofficial visit and still will visit officially (not set up yet). The Huskies began to take the lead a couple of weeks ago and as time went on, USC came on strong as well.

But there’s one thing Washington has that USC doesn’t have.

“It’s like home away from home”, Fautanu said. He grew up in the Puget Sound Area and still has family right there within a few miles of Montlake.

“With me it’s also about the Poly tradition –we watched a film about that. I have to carry that one. You wear your name on the back of your jersey and so you have to carry that name on with pride.”

One good thing about Fautanu is that he will graduate and enroll early, so he will be ready to go in spring ball. He’s also signing in December (obviously) and so when he tweeted yesterday that the “weight of the world” was off his back, he meant it.

At 275 now, enrolling early will give Fautanu the chance to get into the weight room and get up to three bills.

Scott Huff did it again, and his birthday was today so this likely a very good gift — and the Huskies continue to bring in a Poly-rich flavor to their football program.

“I love Coach Huff and we have a real strong relationship, he’s been there for me from the beginning.”

This is shaping up to be one of the best — if not the best — offensive line class in Husky history.
