Washington won an in-state and Pac-12 recruiting battle today when they received a pledge from Kennedy Catholic wideout, Jabez Tinae.
“I want to be developed by the best”, Tinae told Realdawg.com about his decision, “I believe Coach Adams can make me the best WR and help me hone my skills to excel at the collegiate and professional level.
“I know it’s going to take hard work and I know that I have what it takes… With the mentor-ship of both Coach Adams and Coach Lake, I see myself having an excellent career as a Dawg and this class really making a good run for a National title.”
Tinae actually committed last week, as was reported on our message board, (although we never named him) and by that time a lot of fans and reporters on 247 believed he was leaning to WSU, but Tinae had to decide on just the right day to release his decision.
“I called Coach Adams as soon as I was ready to make the move”, he said, ” I didn’t want to prolong the process. He was thrilled and said that it made his night hearing I was ready to commit. We got on the phone with Coach Lake together and they were both excited, screaming and celebrating with me”.
Tinae, who’s 6-1, 188, was patient waiting for the offer from Washington, but that patience paid off back in February when he facetimed with Junior Adams and Jimmy Lake and the offer came.
But it wasn’t just all a football decision either, “The Education is second to none and I can’t overlook the hometown factor”, he explained, “My family is here and will be able to support and attend games. My home church is here and I believe it’s where I need to be in this season of my life — I have the best of everything here at UW”.
Tinae is hoping to keep the Kennedy Catholic’s flavor for success alive during his senior season, where already his career has yielded over 2100 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.
“My goal is to train and focus on my last season as a Lancer”, Tinae explained, “I hope that COVID will not derail the season and our opportunity to make one more run for a State Championship title. I want to continue to develop, help my team win games and strengthen relationships with those that have helped me get here.
“For this last year, more reps, staying healthy and finishing strong academically are key”
And his quarterback?
“I am glad to know my QB will be at Montlake with me next year…I will get to connect as Dawgs at the next level — we are only gonna get better and our connection is going to improve and get more dynamic with time”.
And Tinae knows now that he and Huard have another job to undertake, and that’s to help recruit the Big Three of the state of Washington: JT, Emeka, and Prentice.
“I played FBU with all of them in 8th grade and if we can rally together this class, we have a legit opportunity to win the Natty. They are great friends and brothers on the field”.
Scouting Report
On film, Tinae is a shifty receiver who runs real crisp routes and has excellent vision. He reads defenses well and will go right across the middle before making precise cuts and heading off to the races.
Another thing that stands out is Tinae’s ability to get separation and get open; you can tell he puts a lot of time and effort into perfecting his routes. He has soft hands and has an exceptionally high ceiling under the right tutelage at the next level.
Jabez, who’s a 4-star receiver, picked the Huskies over such Pac-12 schools as Oregon, Washington State, USC, Utah, and also over Big 10 offer, Nebraska.
Tinae is the first receiver to commit to the 2021 class, and with the chemistry he already has with Sam Huard, this is a huge pickup for the Huskies.
