Woof! Another commitment from the weekend of June 25th-27th, Holtzclaw actually committed to head coach Jimmy Lake before he left to go back to Arizona.
“It was just different from every other place I visited, and after talking it over with my mom, she told me that I hadn’t talked about any other school we went to like this, and it just felt right.”
“Everything about it was amazing,” Holtzclaw said. “From the coaching staff, to the culture, to the city itself, it was everything I could ever want in a school and then some. All they had to offer from football to academics, to life after football, it felt like home.”
He also talked about the opportunities Washington’s NIL plan provided for him once he gets to campus, “I have a plan to start building my own brand through community work, and I want to expand on it from there to hopefully partner with some local businesses.”
Holtzclaw also plans to learn a lot from the host of his visit, Bralen Trice, who has a very similar skillset to his own.
“I really want to learn a lot from him, but at the same time, I want to remain my own person. I know that we play a very similar game, but I have a lot that I want to learn outside of that when it comes to how I’ll fit into the defense.”
Right now, Holtzclaw says that he isn’t sure what the plan for him will be during his first year on campus. He stated that it’s going to come down to how well he performs during his senior season, along with what kind of size and strength he shows up with on campus, and how well he picks up the defensive playbook. He also said that if possible, he wants to enroll early, but it depends on how he can structure his classes for the fall semester.
Holtzclaw is a huge get for outside linebackers coach Ikaika Malloe, and it appears the only other player on his board at this time is Tevarua Tafiti. Will he be able to land both of his top targets? Only time will tell…
