It may have seemed like the worst-kept secret in the Pacific Northwest, but Julius Buelow still had folks guessing when he and his family snuck into town Thursday night, and began his official visit yesterday.
Buelow actually committed to the Husky coaches yesterday morning, but wanted to surprise his good friend — and fellow Husky OL commit — Nathaniel Kalepo lastnight at the Rainier Beach game before making anything public.
“I decided (it was) Washington when I got to talk to Coach Petersen — he’s a great guy and I can’t wait to play for him”, Buelow explained, “And me and Coach Huff have a good relationship — we’re always making eachother laugh.”
We learned of this several weeks ago but were not at liberty to release the name of the “Mystery Visitor” until the announcement was made by Julius, himself.
Buelow chose the Huskies over TCU, Utah, Oregon, Florida, Notre Dame, and several others.
The 4-star offensive tackle is now a bookend to, Nathaniel Kalepo — and this is a huge pick up for the Dawgs. Buelow is a left tackle at 6-8, 320, and Kalepo on the right at 6-7, 320.
“It’s the coaches and the opportunity to compete as a freshman for the starting job”, he said, adding that the Hawai’i/Poly connection is “another thing that draws me to the school.”
Buelow also talked about the relationship and friendship he’s built with Kalepo in the past year, “It’s helped a lot”, he said.
Buelow is big, strong, fast, and has a little bit of nasty on the field — he’s the complete package and has a very bright future at Washington.
“I’m super stoked that I get to come in early and just start to develop”, Buelow said of enrolling early.
So far, Washington has made a near-sweep of Hawai’i; kicker Tim Horn has committed, linebacker Miki Ah You is committed, DL Sama Paama is committed, and now Buelow.
All that’s left is Fa’atui Tuitele — and that’s a nice Hawai’in Punch for 2019.
