Surprise! The Huskies have dipped back into the 2021 pool at defensive back. Washington has secured a commitment from San Jacinto (Calif.) defensive back Davon Banks. While it appeared the coaching staff was done with the class of 2021, with only J.T. Tuimoloau remaining on the board, they’ve decided to add another DB to a class that is now at four DBs from the Golden State. With Dyson McCutcheon, Zakhari Spears, and Vince Nunley already in the fold, the coaches decided to add one more versatile body to the room.
On its face. this looks exactly like offering Myles Bryant a scholarship. Banks is extremely athletic, and moves very well in short areas. He’s the kind of player that could use a year or two in a college weight room to make sure he can physically handle the rigors of college football, but after he has that time to develop, he could be a force in the nickel or at safety, just like Bryant. He also has top end speed, and should be able to run with the best at the next level. He can tackle very well, and while he definitely still needs time to develop his technique, but who’s better at developing that than Jimmy Lake and his staff?
And before Husky fans start panicking and asking if this is the last available scholarship for the 2021 season, no, it isn’t. There’s still room for Tuimoloau under the 85 scholarship limit. More to come very soon, stay tuned…
