The Dawgs got busy last week when they made offer #16 to Saguaro (Scottsdale) center, Parker Brailsford, and it took Brailsford about…a week to decide that Seattle was going to be his new home.
The 2022 OL told the Husky coaches he was ready to commit, and now made a formal announcement on Twitter just seconds ago.
“They offered me last Tuesday”, the 6-3 275 lb. hoss told Realdawg.com, “I’ve been talking to them for awhile, I really liked what they had to say and I was able to build those relationships. Coach Huff was a lot more personable than any of the other coaches recruiting me.”
That included offers from the likes of USC, Colorado, Arizona, and 12 others.
But Brailsford also had a Saguaro connection to Washington, “Jacobe Covington”, he said, “We would talk quite a bit and he said he really liked it there.”
On the field, one scout compared Brailsford to a young Nick Harris; he’s stronger and bigger than Harris was coming out of high school, but Brailsford has exceptional technique, a low center of gravity, and uses his pad level to drive guys off the line of scrimmage. His first step is solid and he is good with his hands.
But Brailsford is also a very cerebral player; which is exactly what you want in a center, “My coaches have said that I am strong at communicating with my team”, he said, “I feel that I’m quick off the ball and I don’t give up on plays.”
On film his aggressiveness shows up, and does exhibit that same mentality of Nick Harris; plays with some nasty and attitude.
Great pick up by Coach Huff and Jimmy Lake.
“They were really excited”, Brailsford said about telling the coaches he was coming to UW, “I do plan to get up there in the summer. I’ve been to Washington but have never been to the campus (at UW).”
Brailsford has family in the tri-cities and so he knows what life looks like in the Pacific Northwest.
He’s also planning to enroll early — and had just spoken with his councilors today about getting that set up.
The Huskies had a rough spring in recruiting with two of their prior commits (Sir Mells and Anthony Jones) decommitting, and things were a little dry up until quarterback Jackson Stratton pulled the trigger just two weeks ago, but the offensive line class of 2022 is on track to start taking shape — and Brailsford is leading the way by giving his pledge right now.
You can bet the Dawgs will start making their case for locals such as Josh Conerly and Mark Narbou to join the party.
