WOOF! Huskies Land Elite Texas Tailback, Emeka Megwa

The Huskies have been establishing a habit of going into Texas and pulling out top tier running backs; this year would be no different. Today, Roanoke, Texas (Timber Creek) tailback, Emeka Megwa announced his commitment to Washington.

“It’s a great school”, Megwa told Realdawg.com last evening, “Coach Lake is a great guy and a great coach — the players think so too.”

Megwa said the visit solidified his decision to choose Washington, “Just going in…I knew what Washington was about. The culture of the team.”

And despite so many big time offers from all over the country (37, total), Megwa wasn’t caught up with all the hype, “Growing up, I didn’t really watch a lot of college football”, he said, “I didn’t know what an offer was.”

So when the offers began to come in, Megwa wasn’t overly fazed by them, “I knew I would have to do my research and watch games.”

The Huskies were one of Megwa’s earlier offers, so that stood out — as well as his relationship with Keith Bhonapha, “He’s real cool, he’s kind of like an uncle to me.”

During the visit last weekend, Kamari Pleasant was Megwa’s host, “My mom, dad, two sisters and my brother went with me”, he said, “They loved it up there.”

Originally from Chicago, Megwa is the quintessential elite running back; he’s versatile, can contribute in every facet of the running game, he’s big (6-1, 218), can run inside, outside, above-average speed, has good hands, a physical blocker — and he can line up outside in the slot or catch the ball out of the backfield.

He’s really hard to bring down.

“I can do it all”, he said of his game, “Coach said it’s all up (for grabs) and for who’s best.”

Megwa will help his cause when he enrolls early in January — or even sooner since he has almost earned the credits needed to graduate early.

Keith Bhonapha aka “KB”, has slowly and methodically upgraded the running back position since he arrived at Washington with Chris Petersen.

In the last three years he has brought in top running backs out of Texas — and Washington now arguably has one of the best running back stables in the Pac-12 and West Coast.

Texas running backs have been the gold-standard of high school running backs, sure — there are good backs in every state — but high school football in Texas is the most physical in the country.

Husky Nation needs to thank their lucky stars that KB is continuing to lead the charge in running back recruiting under Jimmy Lake now.
