Just when you thought it was safe to think the 2020 offensive line class was in the books, the Huskies had one more trick up their sleeve.
Gig Harbor offensive tackle, Samuel Peacock had been on the Husky radar for a long time, but didn’t get to Seattle back in June for the Dirt Dawg camp — so further evaluation was needed.
Unfortunately, Peacock wound up making an early decision and committed to Oregon State.
Scott Huff and the Husky coaches continued to watch Peacock though, and offered anyway two weeks ago. Peacock yesterday.
“I told Oregon State that I was really grateful but I wanted to stay home”, Peacock told Realdawg.com, “It was just a better fit for me.”
Rumors began leaking out this week, but Realdawg.com spoke to a source close to Peacock over the weekend who asked us to keep this under-wraps until he was ready to announce that he would be decommitting from Oregon State, and committing to Washington.
“It’s been a slow (process)”, Peacock explained, “Coach Huff has been watching me for a long time and so it just took a little longer. But I feel it’s the best place for me and just the right fit.”
Peacock had been to the Washington campus the weekend they played Oregon, but he took an unofficial trip on Monday — and his wheels began to turn.
“I’m super-pumped”, he said, I’ve met and texted a couple (of the current OL commits). I know they’re a real good group of guys.”
To make sure there’s no confusion, we can confirm that there are no defectors from the current 2020 OL commit list; all are solid. Also, some have wondered if this had to do with Levi Rogers committing to Stanford, but remember, Washington never offered Rogers — and he’s an inside guy anyway.
Tackles are a priority.
Peacock will be a bookend with Roger Rosengarten at tackle. He’s big, he has a very high ceiling, and he has a motor on the field. His athleticism is what drew the Husky coaches to the conclusion that he needed to stay in-state and go to Washington.
Peacock also plays basketball and throws the shotput in track. He’s planning to sign in December but won’t be enrolling early.
