Realdawg.com learned prior to the weekend that Bishop Gorman (Vegas) 4-star receiver, Rome Odunze would be making his decision over the weekend, and today, he and his family gathered the Husky coaches together by telephone to let them know that his decision was made.
“That visit…”, Odunze said about Washington, “I really liked it there”, Odunze reported, “They pay a lot of attention to winning — but they also have Built for Life and care a lot about things outside of football too.
“They’re paying attention to that while also playing for the college football playoffs and a national title.”
“It’s mainly about the coaches and what they do…They’re great people — they’re great coaches too but they are great people. They have a winning mentality in how they play football but they also make it fun, and they set you up for life.”
When Odunze was on the UW campus, his mother Necia was very impressed by the Built for Life presentation and has had a real strong relationship with the Husky coaches.
Odunze chose the Huskies over Oklahoma, Oregon, UCLA, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and a whole host of others (33 offers total).
He’s underrated nationally, and is listed as the #2 prospect in Nevada this year, but the thing that sets Odunze apart from other receivers is that he’s fast — last season he went to state in track with a 10.67 100 time.
Odunze is long and elusive (6-3, 195). His yards-after-catch are extremely good and his routes are very crisp. If you watch his film one of the other things that stands out is how fluid he is whether he’s running a slant, cross, quick-out, or post route. Odunze is a legit deep threat; if you watch the video below watch what happens if the DB misses. Odunze has that second gear and just flat out runs away from players as if to say “you better not miss”.
He shows silky soft hands and is also a threat on special teams.
Last season Odunze recorded over 1300 yards on 60 receptions and 16 touchdowns.
This is a huge pick-up for Washington; they’ve already received a pledge from 4-star receiver, Jalen McMillan (another guy the Huskies beat Oklahoma, Oregon, and several others to land), and local receiver, Sawyer Racanelli. So Junior Adams has definitely begun to make his presence known as an excellent recruiter and closer with some of the best receivers in the country.
