Washington has added a fourth member to their defensive line class for the 2023 recruiting cycle, and they got a good one in Moorhead (Minn.) High School defensive tackle Elinneus Davis. His commitment moves Kalen DeBoer’s first full recruiting class up to 23rd overall, and Davis had a lot of good things to say about the new head coach and why he decided to come out west.

“Washington has a great staff that I believe can develop me for the next level,” he said. “On top of that, they can offer me one of the best educations in the country, and what’s even better is that it’s truly the greatest setting in college football… I want to be developed and be the best player I possibly can be, but I also want to grow as a man.”

Fellow Husky commit and four-star defensive end prospect Anthony James was all over social media advocating for Davis to join him on Montlake, and Davis said the two became close during their official visit.

When asked if James’ recruitment of him played into his decision, he said, “Honestly? A little bit. We hung out during our official visit, he’s a really cool, humble person, and I’m really excited to get a chance to play with him.”

Davis said his primary recruiters during the process were edge coach Eric Schmidt, defensive line coach Inoke Breckterfield, along with DeBoer.

“They’re all really great,” he said. “I got really close with coach Schmidt and coach DeBoer, because they’re from not too far from where I live, but on my visit I spent most of my time with coach [Breckterfield] and I can’t say enough good things about him. He has a great personality, he knows so much about the game, and I love that he’s able to coach me from the perspective of a former player.”

On film, it’s not hard to spot Davis. He has an elite first step, and might remind some Husky fans of Levi Onwuzurike, and he prides himself on that burst.

“I surprise myself with my agility,” he said. “I don’t really feel fast but when people watch my film and tell me I have this quick burst, I surprise myself that I’m able to do some of the things that I can at my size.”

After securing 12 commitments between June 20th and July 1st, Davis ended the commitment drought for Washington’s class at 10 long days. There’s a lot to be excited about in the class of 2023, and it sounds like there are still more commitments coming down the pipeline.
