Will Harris has worked alongside Jimmy Lake with the DB’s at Washington, but now he has the entire room at his command and talked with the media today about what means, and who to keep an eye on in 2020.
Here’s some bullet points from our teleconference today:h
** “Having the whole room has been interesting”, Harris said, also mentioning that the addition of Terrance Brown as a co-secondary coach is something he’s excited about. He said Brown brings a lot of “energy and knowledge of the game”, to the staff.
** Harris called Kyler Gordon a “freak of nature”, and said he just needed to be more “technically sound”. “He fixed that”, Harris said, adding that now Gordon has the “mindset to compete.”
** On Julius Irvin’s progress, Harris talked about the fact that Irvin has a nagging injury in 2019 but that he expects him to play a “major role” this year in the secondary.
** As for Asa Turner and Cameron Williams, both were playing last season as true freshmen. Harris said Williams has added 15 pounds since he’s been at Washington and Turner has added 12. “Those guys got better”, he said as a result of that early playing time, “They’re locked in.”
** As for what he means by being “locked in”, Harris said this means “they truly love football”. He added that this means a player is ready to excel and take their game to the next level. And with Washington now being called “DBU”, Harris said “There’s a reason for that.”
** One guy who is also coming up in the ranks is Trent McDuffie, “He’s been awesome”, Harris said, “He’s in love with football.”
** Harris also talked about how excited he was to find out Elijah Molden was going to return for his senior season, “It just made my whole year”, he said.
