Things are starting to heat up as we are now into conference play. Here are my week five Pac-12 power rankings.
1. #13 Oregon (3–1)
The Ducks were idle.
Next Opponent: vs California
2. #15 Washington (4-1)
The Huskies defense shutdown USC’s air raid offense in a 28-14 win in Seattle. Washington seems to have caught their rhythm since the loss to California.
Next Opponent: at Stanford
3. #17 Utah (4-1)
The Utes were angry after their loss to USC and it showed last Saturday in their dominating 38-13 win over Washington State. Utah remains the favorite in the south division.
Next Opponent: Idle
4. #20 Arizona State (4-1)
The Sun Devils out-gained California by over 100 yards in their 24-17 upset won. California lost starting QB Chase Garbers in the first half. But still an impressive win for Herm Edwards and the Sun Devils.
Next Opponent: Idle
5. California (4-1)
The Golden Bears’ run of getting out-gained and winning came to an end against Arizona State. Not only did they lose the game but starting QB Chase Garbers could be out awhile with a shoulder injury.
Next Opponent: at Oregon
6. USC (3-2)
Matt Fink’s three Interceptions were too much to overcome in the Trojans’ 28-14 loss to Washington. Quarterback Kedon Slovis should be back after the bye.
Next Opponent: Bye
7. Colorado (3-1)
The Buffaloes were idle.
Next Opponent: vs Arizona
8. Washington State (3-2)
The Cougars’ 32-point meltdown against UCLA carried over to Salt Lake City in their 38-13 loss to Utah. Head coach Mike Leach called out his players for being “soft” among other things after the game.
Next Opponent: Idle
9. Arizona (3-1)
The Wildcats were without starting QB Khalil Tate and RB J.J. Taylor but still managed a 20-17 win over UCLA.
Next Opponent: at Colorado
10. Stanford (2-3)
The Cardinal got a hard fought 31-28 win over Oregon State with backup QB Davis Mills. But there is still a lot of concern with this Cardinal team. Stanford was out-gained 501-353 yards by the Beavers.
Next Opponent: vs Washington
11. UCLA (1-4)
The Bruins couldn’t take advantage of a hurt wildcats team and lost 20-17 in Tucson. It was a major let down considering the adversity they overcame at Washington State the week before.
12. Oregon State (1-3)
The Beavers are getting better despite their close loss to Stanford. Two of their three losses have come by three points.
Next Opponent: at UCLA
