Watchlist Season: No Washington RB on Doak Walker Watchlist

No Washington running back was placed on the2022 Doak Walker Watchlist when it was released earlier today.

Premiering in 1990, the award goes to the nation’s top collegiate running back.

Husky legend, Greg Lewis was recipient of the inaugural award.  No other Husky running back has received the award.

It’s no surprise that no Husky is watchlisted, at this point.

In 2021, Washington head coach Jimmy Lake famously wore a hat that read, “RUN THE DAMN BALL”.  Promptly, Washington’s ground game ground to a halt.

As a team, last season, UW averaged under 100 yards a game and just 3.2 yards per carry.  The team’s leading rusher was Sean McGrew with 434 rushing yards.

Health at the position, a new offense being installed, no incumbent and no clear favorite heading into fall camp are factors for no Washington running back appearing on the watchlist.

RealDawg.com’s Roman Tomashoff sees a two-player battle entering fall camp in a few weeks.

“Cam Davis is the favorite,” he said.  “If he can’t answer the bell it’ll probably be transfer Aaron Dumas.”

According to Tomashoff, the 6-0, 193-pound Davis and 5-9, 208-pound New Mexico-transfer, Dumas appear up be best scheme-fits for DeBoer’s attaching brand of offense.

If either can stabilize the running back position, they could be a late addition to the watchlist.
