The Washington Huskies went into East Lansing, Michigan to take on the Michigan State Spartans and this was over as soon as it started.
On the first drive the Big 10 officials missed a clear fumble and recovery by Zion Tupuola-Fetui but chose not to review the play.
The Huskies then started their first series at the 45 yard line. It ended with a Germie Bernard touchdown run that rubbed salt in the wound for the program Bernard suited up for last year.
When the starters give way to the backups in the third up 41-0 almost everything went well. The reality is it would have been worse if not for a few phantom holding penalties.
Quarterback
Michael Penix continues to impress with complete control of this offense. He finished 27-35 with an eyepopping 473 yards and 4 touchdowns.
While there were many fantastic throws throughout the afternoon the throw to Rome Odunze for 50 yards standing in his end zone was impressive.
Dylan Morris continues to be one of the most unlucky quarterbacks in Husky history as yet another ball was tipped to a defender for an interception. This one of Taeshaun Lyons that would have been a touchdown.
When the starters leave with a 41-0 lead, the grades will be stellar.

Running Back
Dillon Johnson reminded Husky fans why he was targeted by this coaching staff. He ran tough. He ran through arm tackles and showed his excellent ability change direction quickly.
Tybo Rogers saw a lot of run late in the game and looked explosive. They backs were great in pass protection as well.

Receiver
What other superlatives can one use for this trio? They are simply the best three in the nation. Odunze, McMillan, and Polk were explosive and dominated the secondary.
All three brought down 50-50 balls and made it look routine. The ball Polk caught in the red zone was impressive as he held on when he was rocked in the back was one of the best of the day. Jalen McMillan was wrongfully flagged for a hold on a touchdown when he dominated the defender.
McMillan was hobbled toward the end of the half, but DeBoer said he was ok for next week.

Tight End
It is Jack Westover’s world and the Spartans are just living in it. He had four catches on the day and three of them were for touchdowns. Josh Cuevas checked in with an explosive 57 yard reception.

Offensive Line: Penix was not sacked and had all the time he needed. One concern was the loss of another linemen when Julius Buelow left the game with a knee injury. This group continues to be the foundation on which this offense runs.
