The Washington Huskies improved to 11-0 on a drenched Saturday evening in Corvallis. The Huskies took care of yet another ranked opponent with a 22-20 win over the #11 Oregon State Beavers. Right at kickoff the heavens opened wide and dumped rain for most of the evening.
Washington receivers could be seen behind the bench attempting to find ways to secure the slippery passes. The torrential downpour made the passing game extremely difficult for both teams most of the game.
Washington was held scoreless in the second half after a false-start took three points off the board. While there was much to be desired, the Dawgs got a big enough lead to hold off the Beavers.
Quarterback: Only looking at Michael Penix’s numbers one would think he had an off game. He failed to reach 200 yards for the first time as a Husky and completed less than half of his throws. Penix battled the elements along with the receivers who dropped at least seven catchable balls. On the other hand, Penix did not turn the ball over, threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. His toss to Rome Odunze for 19 yards on 3rd and two sealed the game.

Receivers: Josh Pate of CBS sports said this game had the worst conditions of any he has been to which includes games played in snow. The ball was slick and hands were pruned from the moisture in the atmosphere. Ja’Lynn Polk, Jalen McMillan, and Rome Odunze had a hard time securing passes all game. Odunze was the reason Washington came out winners; he was electric all game and finished with 106 yards and two touchdowns.

Tight Ends: The play of the game came on a scramble throw from Michael Penix that landed in Jack Westover’s arms for a first down. The tight ends did most of their work in the blocking game and consistently made holes for Dillon Johnson and the running backs. Josh Cuevas also came up with a massive tackle on special teams.

Running Backs: Dillon Johnson had a shot to break away and score a back breaking touchdown in the second quarter before he was caught by the Beaver defense. Johnson failed to switch the ball to the outside hand and was stripped for a lost fumble. The saving grace was the defense then getting the ball right back on another fumble. Even with the turnover Johnson helped keep the clock moving in the few opportunities in the second half and kept the ball away from Oregon State enough to get the win.

Offensive Line: The O-line continues to dominate the line of scrimmage. They made enough holes for Dillon Johnson and kept Michael Penix untouched throughout the game. This group is one of the best in the nation and showed it once again against a dangerous pass rush.
