Washington Winter Workouts Produce “Phenomenal” Results DeBoer Said

In the span of eight months the Washington Huskies have been reshaped in some pretty “phenomenal”, measurable ways, said coach Kalen DeBoer.

”This team has redefined what hard work is,” DeBoer said, noting that effort is hard to measure but the said that the results speak for themselves.

The work began last summer when the players were measured when they reported for camp.  Since that point in time the players a more explosive, increasing the best measurements of explosiveness: vertical leap and broad jump.

DeBoer noted that each  player added an off  average 2-1/2 inches on their vertical and 4 inches on their broad jump.

Strength-wise the players added 3 reps of their 225 pound bench press and added 20 pounds onto their max bench press.  Additionally, the players increased by an average of 45 pounds for a max squat.

“Those numbers aren’t going to be the same jumps a year ago because those jumps were so drastic,” the second year Husky coach said.

He also noted that the newcomers are experiencing the same jump in numbers as the players experienced  last year this time.

Most of the work occurred in the period since the Huskies victory over Texas in the Alamo Bowl December 29th.
