Washington QB Demond Williams Jr. Shines in First Win as Huskies’ Starter

Demond Williams Jr. had been part of wins before at the University of Washington. His second-half heroics against UCLA last season helped secure a bowl berth for the Huskies.

But until Saturday night, he had never started—and won—a game for UW.

In the locker room after UW’s 38–21 victory over Colorado State, Williams Jr. and his teammates celebrated the moment. In a video released by UW Football, he can be heard expressing gratitude to his teammates for helping him earn his first win as a starter.

It won’t be his last.

The true sophomore looks every bit the part of a rising star in college football. With a dynamic blend of arm strength, touch, and mobility, Williams Jr. has the tools to not only rack up impressive numbers but also carry a program.

Against Colorado State, he totaled nearly 300 yards and threw for one touchdown. His ability to escape the pocket and beat defenders to the edge was crucial, especially in the second half when the Huskies pulled away.

Though he reportedly stands 5-9, Williams, Jr. stood tall in the pocket, showing impressive awareness, evading pressure and taking only three sacks. More importantly, he consistently placed the ball where only his receivers could make a play.

Expectations are growing for the youngster from Arizona—for good reason. Saturday night may have been his first win as a starter, but it’s just the beginning.
