Washington Offers “Lightening in a bottle” Las Vegas Athlete

It didn’t take long after watching 3-star athlete Andres Pollard practice, for the Washington Husky coaches to extend an offer.

“They like my speed, my versatility like the fact that I play multiple positions,” the Las Vegas pospect said.  “I was returning a receiver, a DB and a running back last season.”

One scout, when asked if the 4.37 speed (recorded at the Polynesian Bowl) was legitimate he said, “he’s fast fast.  He’s lightening in a bottle.”

Or spikes.

As a sophomore he won the state championship in the 100-meters with a 10.61.

And he lit up the scoreboard with 22 touchdowns last season–but 7 were called back for various infractions.  However, he never let the points being taken off the board affect him or his attitude.  Instead, he treats it like a heat in a track meet.

“I just give the ref the ball and go back and line up and do it again,” he said.

In fact, he is credited with 3 special teams scores with another 3 wiped out.

“I had nearly 1,800 all-purpose yards, last season and 15 TDs,” he said.

That number includes 1,275 offensive yards made up of 707 rushing yards and 569 passing yards.

Keep in mind that he had 7 explosive plays called back, meaning he could easily have another 400 all purpose yards.

Defensively he had 32 tackles, broke up 2 passes, had a forced fumble and an interception.

And, perhaps the craziest of stat of all is that he didn’t pick up a football or run track until 9th grade.

“Football is my first love,” he recalled.  “I played basketball but I bounced between sports, I was never serious about it.  After I played in my ninth-grade year I locked in heavy on it.”

With his speed he was good at most sports until a moment his freshman year.

“I was just naturally fast.  My mom ran track so I guess that’s where my speed comes from.”

Las Vegas born and raised, Pollard takes equal pride in his academic standing.

“I carry a 4.6 grade point average.  The reason it’s above 4 is that I have taken a lot of AP classes so that I can graduate in December,” he noted.

That timeline puts his focus onto picking a college–when he’s not studying his personal film to get better.

“I try to see how to get out of my breaks earlier

“I’ll commit after I finish up with my official visits in June or July,” he said.  “I visited ASU a couple weeks ago, Minnesota the weekend of the 30th, then Arizona State and Oregon State and Stanford.”

Washington quickly became one of his favorites.

“The coaches were cool,” he said.  “I’m going to get up there for a visit soon.”
