Washington Offers 4-Star Transfer Portal Defensive Lineman

Washington Offers 4-Star Transfer Portal Defensive Lineman

Apparently recruiting doesn’t even sleep on Thanksgiving as the Washington Huskies have offered Ivy League defensive lineman Joey Slackman.  At the University of Pennsylvania, Slackman’s intent was to wrestle before switching to football where he became an All-American with a year of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career.  He announced November 20th his intent to enter the Transfer Portal.

“I expect that Washington will be looking for a top-flight transfer to fill the void left by Tuli Letuligasenoa,” said RealDawg.com’s Trevor Mueller.  “Washington has a bevy of young, talented defensive linemen but will probably need to surround them with veteran talent as they grow into starters.”

Interestingly, if Slackman chooses the Huskies he could be playing in front of family next season as the Huskies play Penn State and Rutgers in 2024.

In his three seasons for the Quakers, Slackman recorded 115 career tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. This fall, he had the best season of his career with 50 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and four sacks. He also had one pass deflection and one blocked kick.

Although the Transfer Portal has yet to officially open, the run-stuffer has become a hot commodity picking up offers from coast to coast. Other programs that have offered him include Arizona, Colorado, Wisconsin, Louisville, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Illinois, Houston, Maimi, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Duke, Rutgers, BYU, and UConn.

The Commack, New York native prior to his standout football career with Penn was a nationally ranked wrestler coming out of high school including being a New York State Wrestling Champion in 2019 and being ranked as a top 12 wrestler at 285 pounds as a high school senior.

RealDawg.com will have more on the Huskies’ pursuit of Slackman shortly.
