Washington Makes a Statement in the National Championship Rematch

The Washington Huskies took care of #10 Michigan limiting the pedestrian offense to less than 300 total yards. So much has changed in 10 months since these teams met in the National Championship yet Jedd Fisch acknowledged the redemption in his interview on the field after the 27-17 victory.

“For our team and for last year’s team, I hope we have some good redemption.” Fisch remarked as fans crowded around in the pandemonium after they stormed the field.

The Huskies were able to move the ball against a defense that was highly regarded coming into the matchup. Even when the Huskies failed to score the ball was moving efficiently up and down the field. The Huskies were held to just two three and outs as the offense put up 429 total yards on the day.

Will Rogers was phenomenal on the day throwing for over 270 yards, two touchdowns, and his first interception of the season. The Mississippi State signal caller was poised throughout the afternoon as he orchestrated drives that kept the UW defense rested.

When they were on the field the defense was elite. Not only did the Husky defense send Alex Orji to the bench after the third drive of the game, they also forced Jack Tuttle into two costly turnovers.

After three possessions where Tuttle and the Wolverines were able to move the ball on the Dawgs, the adjustments forced Tuttle into throws he was not capable of making. Kamren Fabiculanan ended the game on a diving interception.

The front seven had the enormous task of stopping the prolific rushing attack of Michigan. The three headed monster of Alex Orji, Donovan Edwards, and Kalel Mullings was held in check with just one explosive play from Edwards.

The was a statement game for the Huskies who now sit at 4-2. They showed on national television how good they can be when they limit the mistakes. If they play their game from here on out there is no game they couldn’t win. The schedule doesn’t look as daunting as it did in the preseason with Iowa taking a step back, USC is still inconsistent, and Oregon still has questions to answer.

I am not saying Washington can win out, but the Huskies are poised to make a run and are still alive in the hunt for the Big-10 Championship.
